    Lovely cottage
Spotlessly clean cottage. We loved the topsy turvey layout. We didn't want for anything. Pool on site is lovely and short drive to many points of interest. Would highly recommend a trip to Winlatter Forest.

    Spacious Property with excellent Facilities
Generous size property with pleasant outlook. Pool, play area, games room and outside activities were great, quiet as well. Only downside is the location as it really is in the middle of nowhere and did feel a little isolated. Bear in mind additional parking costs every time you visit a Lake and parking is pricey in the Lake District. Perfect place if you want to get away from it all but still be easy driving distance to Ullswater.

Hi Clare, Pleased you enjoyed your stay and the facilities. Unless you choose a property in any of the towns, then by its very nature its quiet wherever you stay in the Lake District. Also unfortunately tourists always have Car Park fees to pay ,not at the cottage though.

    Perfection
The property itself is spacious, clean and perfectly equipped. The beds are comfortable. It's in a great location on the site as grass at the rear for kids to play and the kids can even reach the playground and still be within sight. The resort is beautiful, with super friendly staff. Picture postcard setting. The facilities are amazing. Lovely clean pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, even a small gym if you're wanting to work out while on holiday! There's something for everyone with mini golf, giant chess and well placed benches make great reading areas. The whole site feels safe and relaxing. Thanks Stephanie for letting out such a gem of a holiday cottage, I think we'll be back again!

    Lovely break
The kids loved it and thought it was really fun at Whitbarrow. Good use was made of the pool, frisbee golf, mini golf & ping pong. The house was cosy but with plenty of room for all of us. We would definitely return.

    A fantastic weekend away
This cottage is perfect for a family weekend away. We loved the location as it is close to Ullswater and Derwent water where we had some great day trips. The views from the upstairs lounge window are lovely and the facilities are fantastic. The children loved the spa - the swimming pool and jacuzzi. There are saunas too and a childrens pool. The restaurant was also excellent - taking care of my son who cannot eat dairy. There are pool tables and table tennis, crazy golf and a giant chess game. What is not to like? We would love to go back!

A lovely 4 days spent at the cottage. Clean, comfortable and peaceful. Stephanie is so helpful.
Wonderful break away. Cottage is clean, comfortable and homely. Stephanie, the owner, is very helpful and gets back to you straight away. The twin beds had new mattresses which were extremely comfortable. Facilities on site are plentiful and our children used the pool each day. An excellent base for exploring the Lake District. Perhaps for next time a new frying pan as the one we used isn’t none stick so there were a few cooking disasters!!! This is only a minor thing though. Can’t wait to come again in warmer weather.

Fantastic little cottage. Very clean and well equipped. Very comfortable for our party of 3 adults and 3 kids. Great site too with activities on offer, brilliant for the kids. Site is well kept and quiet. Plenty of stuff to do in the surrounding areas. We didn’t want to come home!
Stephanie very easy to deal with, and quick on replying to messages.

Definitely worth a stay, we hope to be back!

The cottage is in the lovely little hoseasons village of whitbarrow and is perfect. Absolutely brilliant little base for us for a family holiday. Well equipped, clean, cosy. We had a small issue with the gas cooker during our stay but both reception at the village and Mrs. Smith, the cottage owner were very helpful and fast at resolving this. The owner is lovely and friendly and responded quickly to any messages we sent. The village staff are all great too.
There is so much to do on site, swimming, archery, golf, gym, crafts, survival skills, we even spent a morning playing a 'crystal maze' style family adventure game which was fantastic and all activities on site are free. The whole complex is ruled over by a fab flock of friendly ducks who soon learned that my kids would feed them and followed us around. The memory of my 4 year old sat outside our cottage, feeding a duckling from her hand will stay with me forever.

The village is perfectly situated for the lakes, castlerigg stone circle, aira force, everything. You won't be short of things to do. We'd come back here in a heartbeat.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mallard Cottage. The cottage is really well maintained and Stephanie went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed for our stay (including stairgates as we travelled with our children). The cottage is well-equipped with all you would need for self-catering. The village has great facilities, with special mention to the room near the bar which has a section for children to play and also table tennis. Really well positioned between Keswick and Penrith. We would not hesitate to book again.

Thank you very much.Lovely review. So pleased you had such a good time.
    Kind regards Stephanie

We arrived in a snowstorm and were so pleased that the heating had already been turned on for us and then pleasantly surprised how well equipped Mallard Cottage was. It proved an ideal haven for our short but strenuous visit to the Lakes.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it was lovely to re-acquaint ourselves with the area (especially Penrith). The house was comfortable and clean and the only slight issue was the lack of wifi. This wasn't really a problem for us but might be for some people. We would be happy to come back in the future.

Hello Janice.Thank you for taking the time to write a review,It's always appreciated. Very pleased you had a good stay and caught up on old times. The WiFi has been an ongoing issue ever since I bought the property. We have to wait until the whole village can be provided with Broadband,by Seasons.Queried many times but they are still in discussions. As you will know there is always access in the main reception, bar etc. Thanks again, would be lovely to see you in the future. It was a well spent winter break.Choosing Cumbria in Dec was tricky with the unsteady weather and all.But the resort was a welcome surprise. We were lucky to have good weather. We managed to do out doors more during the day and kept ourselves entertained in the resort in the evenings.Keswick is a very quaint village with beautiful restaurants and lovely town center. The restaurant at the resort goes without saying. They had a generous menu both dinner and for bfast. The amenities in the resort for children like the swimming pool, table tennis and just playing around the area were fun.Stephanie our host was very warm and is very approachable for any quieries. She had provided board games in the cottage which sadly we discovered just the day before.Payments were prompt and the cottage was impeccably clean. We enjoyed our stay till Xmas.We will come back for sure and recommend this to any age group and families who want a quiet holiday away.Internet can be a downer if i have anything to point out.other wise it was a perfect dream holiday.Thank you Stephanie!!!

Thank you so much for such a lovely review. So pleased you had such a lovely Xmas in my lovely cottage. There is Wifi in the main reception area , bar etc and occasionally it does reach the cottage(but not often).Have queried with the complex but they have no plans to introduce to the whole village.Actually ,I often have comments, especially when travelling with teenagers, that once they get over their withdrawal symptoms, they forget all about it and just get on and enjoy their holiday without it. Thank you again
PS WiFi arrived October 2017.Sure many teenagers will be delighted.

We stayed here with our 2 grandchildren (9 and 6) for a short break as they had an extended school holiday. The house is well equipped, beautifully clean and in an ideal location. The children loved the pool and enjoyed the playground and crazy golf. Being only a short drive from such beautiful scenery we spent some lovely days walking/climbing the hills. We were very lucky to have really great weather and the children paddled in the streams and lakes. The restaurant serves great food and all the staff are very friendly. I imagine that if we had been there during August there would have been more children around, but we appreciated the peace and quiet of the village. The two of us will definitely consider returning on our own in the future. Thank you Stephanie for allowing us to stay in your lovely home.

We booked this cottage through owners direct to head to the lakes for my mothers birthday, we stayed 29 April to the 2 May 2016. Unfortunately it had snowed on the Thursday and so we were apprehensive about the visit due to the weather conditions, all of that was wiped away on the journey to Whitbarrow. The mountains covered in snow looked stunning. The cottage is delightful it is very comfortable and extremely clean and the view from the balcony is priceless overlooking the hills. One morning there was a duck and her ducklings waddling down the road in front of the cottage and later that morning there was a grouse and a pheasant on the grass verge outside the back, these sights are not our usual views from our offices in the city of Manchester, it was very exciting for our young boys. The location of the cottage on the village resort is perfect it is nice and quiet and if you have young children it is great to just open the back door and walk a few hundred years to the park and crazy golf. The whole village is exceptionally clean and the staff were helpful. The cottage is well equipped with all you could need including a travel cot and high chair for small children. The swimming pool area is lovely, nice and warm with a small splash pool for children. I can not speak highly enough of this cottage and it is an added bonus that Stephanie the owner is very pleasant and communicates immediately. We would highly recommend, thank you Stephanie for allowing us to share your lovely cottage.
